Somehow it’s already almost the second half of the year. If you’re sitting there wondering where the first half went — and whether you’re still on track — you’re not alone. The women who finish the year feeling good aren’t the ones who had it all figured out in January. They’re the ones who paused somewhere in the middle, asked themselves a few honest questions, and kept going with a little more clarity than before.

July starts in two weeks. This is that pause!

Grab your planner, something delightful to drink, and about thirty minutes you won’t regret giving yourself.

Your Mid-Year Check-In:

1. What actually got done?

Before you look at what didn’t happen — and we know that’s where your brain wants to go first — start here. Write down everything you’ve finished, shown up for, figured out, or followed through on since January. Big things and small ones. The work win and the dentist appointment you finally scheduled and the hard conversation you had that needed to happen.

All of it counts! Give yourself the full picture before you start editing it.

2. What didn’t happen — and do you still want it to?

This is the one that requires the most honesty. Some things fell off because life genuinely got in the way — a busy season, a hard month, something that needed your attention more. Those deserve a second chance in the second half.

But some things didn’t happen because, quietly, you’ve moved on from them. And that’s okay too!

The goal isn’t to resurrect every January intention. It’s to figure out which ones still belong to you.

3. When did you feel most like yourself?

Not most productive. Not most on top of it. Most like yourself — clear, grounded, present, happy. Think back over the last six months and find those moments. Maybe it was a morning that started slow enough to feel human. A weekend that actually felt like a weekend. A project that reminded you why you do what you do.

Write them down. Then ask yourself how to build more of those moments into the next six months.

4. If you had to pick one thing — what would make this year feel like a success?

Just one thing. If you made real progress on it by December 31st — not perfection, just honest progress — you’d close the year feeling like it counted.

Maybe it’s finally getting your finances in order. Maybe it’s showing up more consistently for your health. Maybe it’s finishing something you’ve been putting off for two years, or being more present with your kids, or building something you’ve been quietly dreaming about.

It doesn’t have to be big. It just has to be yours. Write it down when it surfaces. That’s your second half.

5. What do you need to let go of to make room for it?

This is where the reset actually happens — not in adding more, but in clearing space. One commitment that’s draining more than it’s giving. One obligation you said yes to when you should have said not right now. One standard you’re holding yourself to that stopped making sense a while ago.

You don’t have to resolve it today. You just have to name it. That’s enough to start.

Five questions. Thirty minutes. A blank page and enough honesty to use it.

A few weeks into summer, the excitement starts to wear off.

The novelty of sleeping in has faded. The good snacks have been eaten, the shows have been watched, the camps are over for the day, and suddenly a long afternoon stretches out ahead.

That’s usually when a familiar phrase starts making its rounds through the house:

Slow Cooker Barbecue Ribs

Ingredients:

• 3 lb pork spareribs

• 1 yellow onion

• 1 (18 oz) bottle barbecue sauce

Directions:

1. Season all sides of ribs with salt and pepper, rubbing seasonings in for extra flavor.

2. Add ribs to the slow cooker.

3. Chop onion and add it on top.

4. Pour barbecue sauce over ribs and onions.

5. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.

6. Remove from the slow cooker and serve.

Q: “What’s your favorite summer meal or treat?”

Emily: We love grilling burgers on the back porch — and Mexican corn salad (so delicious!)

Brittany: We LOVE burgers and pasta salad! It’s on repeat for summer in our house. Followed usually by a tall, drippy ice cream cone with all the summer giggles!

Whitney: Anything with tomatoes from the garden! The taste of summer is locally grown ‘maters 🤤 Pico de gallo, tomato and mayo sandwiches, slices with salt — you just can’t go wrong.

Dusty: Living in Florida means grilling and ice cream happen year-round, but summer produce makes it extra special. I love building meals around fresh Florida sweet corn and tomatoes when they’re at their peak. Simple grilled dinners with fresh sides just feel like summer on a plate. The “Use What You Have” Challenge

Before buying something new this week, pause and see if you already have something that can do the job.

Maybe it’s the beautiful journal you’ve been saving for a “special occasion.” Maybe it’s the candle tucked away in a drawer, the recipe you’ve bookmarked but never made, or the summer top hanging in your closet that you’ve completely forgotten about.

A few more ideas:

1. Use the pretty stationery you’ve been saving.

2. Read the book that’s been on your nightstand instead of ordering a new one.

3. Make a recipe from ingredients you already have.

4. Pull out a game or craft project that’s collecting dust.

5. Shop your own home for new decor.

6. Use the nice dishes on Monday night.

7. Dig through your freezer and challenge yourself to make a meal from what you find.

Sometimes the best things are already sitting right in front of us — we just need a reminder to enjoy them!

Summer looks so simple from the outside. No school! Slower pace! Sunshine!

And then the second week of June hits and somehow you’re busier than you were in April, your kitchen looks like a snack bar exploded, and you’re trying to figure out how “summer break” turned into the most complicated season of your year.

The problem isn’t that you have too much to do. It’s that you’re trying to hold all of it at once. The dentist appointment and the school supply run and the trip packing list and the thing you said you’d do with the kids and the work deadline and the birthday party you haven’t planned yet — all of it, floating, all the time, none of it sorted.

That’s not a productivity problem. That’s a system problem.

So your calendar has a brief, glorious window before summer fully arrives and everyone in your household starts asking what’s for lunch at 10:47am.

This is the window. Use it!

Not to do more — but to do a few things intentionally so that when summer actually lands on Monday, you’re ready for it instead of just surviving it.

Here are ten things worth doing right now, while there’s still time.

1. Write down what you actually want this summer to look like.

Not a Pinterest board. Not a list of places. Just sit down for ten minutes and answer this honestly: What would make me look back on this summer and feel like it was a good one?

A slower pace? More time outside? A trip you’ve been putting off? A project that’s been waiting? Write it down before the summer fills itself in without you.

2. Put the fun stuff on the calendar first.

Here’s what happens if you don’t: Summer fills up with obligations, commitments, and other people’s plans — and the things you actually wanted to do get squeezed out entirely. Block the beach weekend. Schedule the family dinner. Protect the slow Saturday. Do it now, before anyone else does.

3. Figure out your summer routine before you need one.

School lets out and suddenly there’s no structure and everyone is feral by 9am. (Relatable.) Think through what a weekday actually needs to look like for you to function — and sketch it out before it’s a problem. Even a loose rhythm is better than none.

4. Do the one house project you’ve been walking past all spring.

You know the one. The closet. The junk drawer. The cabinet under the stairs. The thing you’ve been negotiating with yourself about since February. Summer isn’t going to give you more time — if anything it gives you less. Do it now while the energy is still there. An hour. That’s it.

5. Stock your freezer like the prepared woman you are.

Future you is going to thank present you so much for this. A few meals ready to go for the nights when everyone comes home late, sunburned, and hungry, and nobody wants to cook. Lasagna, soup, whatever your people eat. Make it now. Store it. Feel proud about it all summer.

6. Make a “summer yes list” and a “summer no list.”

Two columns. The things you actually want to say yes to this summer, and the things you’re giving yourself permission to say no to. Decline the obligation that drains you every year. Say yes to the thing you always skip because it feels indulgent. Do this before the requests start rolling in and you’re too tired to think straight.

7. Read the book that’s been on your nightstand since March.

Not “start a reading habit.” Just read that one book. The one with the bookmark still in it from when life got busy. Summer is coming. You deserve to find out what happens.

8. Clean out your car like it’s a fresh start — because it kind of is.

Summer means more driving. Road trips, carpool, errands with three extra people and someone’s wet towel in the backseat. Do a full reset now before any of that starts. Trash out, wipe down, restock the glove box, throw in a good playlist. Five minutes of effort and it feels like a different car. You’ll get in it tomorrow and feel unreasonably good about yourself. Phew!

9. Have the family meeting.

Fifteen minutes. Everyone in the same room. Here’s what we’re doing this summer. Here’s what we’re not doing. Here’s what the expectations are. It’s not glamorous but it is the single most effective thing you can do to make sure summer doesn’t just happen to all of you.

10. Decide one thing you’re doing just for you.

A workout class. A morning walk you protect. A creative project. A weekend away. Something that has nothing to do with being anyone’s mother, partner, employee, or volunteer. Just yours! Write it down. Put it on the calendar. Protect it like a meeting you can’t miss — because you can’t.

Summer doesn’t have to catch you off guard.

Ten small things, done intentionally before it starts, and you’ll walk into it feeling like “I got this” instead of already behind.

That’s the whole goal.

You know that feeling on Sunday night when you look at the week ahead and your stomach kind of sinks?

Not because anything is technically wrong. Just because there’s a lot. And it all needs to get done ... somehow. And you’re already tired. By Wednesday you’re behind, by Friday you’re just surviving, and somewhere in there the week you actually wanted to show up for never really happened.

That feeling isn’t a you problem. It’s a planning problem — or more accurately, a no plan problem. Because here’s what we’ve learned: The weeks that feel manageable aren’t usually the lightest ones. They’re the ones you actually sat down and thought through before they started.

So let’s talk about how to do that — and how to actually follow through once you do.

How to Plan a Week You Actually Want to Show Up For:

1. Start with reality, not ambition.

Before you write a single thing down, look at what’s already true about your week. The appointment Tuesday morning. The thing Thursday that’s going to take more out of you than it looks like on paper. The fact that you have approximately forty-five minutes of real focused time on Wednesday.

Most weeks fall apart not because something goes wrong, but because the plan was never realistic to begin with. Give yourself an honest picture of the container before you start filling it.

2. Pick three things. Just three.

Not your whole to-do list. Not everything that needs to happen eventually. Three things that, if they get done, make the week a win. Write them at the top of your week and plan everything else around them.

It sounds too simple, but trust us it works!

3. Do the hard thing early.

Whatever you’ve been mentally carrying — the call you need to make, the task you keep moving to tomorrow — put it on your Monday or Tuesday. Every day you push it forward, it costs you something. Focus, energy, that low-grade anxiety that follows you around all week. Handle it early and get your week back. 👏

4. Leave room for the week to be a real week.

Build gaps. Not because you’re going to slack off, but because something will come up and you need somewhere to put it. A plan with zero margin isn’t a plan — it’s a setup for feeling behind by Wednesday morning.

5. Put one thing in there you’re actually looking forward to.

A lunch. A walk. Something good. Not as a reward for getting everything done. Just because a good week has good things in it, and you deserve to look forward to at least one of them!

Okay, so you’ve got a plan. Here’s the part nobody talks about enough: Now you actually have to show up for it.

How to Show Up For the Week You Actually Planned:

1. Look at your plan every single morning.

Two minutes. That’s it. Most people write a plan on Sunday and don’t look at it again until they’re wondering where the week went. (Uh, duh, it’s still in the planner). A quick check-in every morning keeps you from spending the whole day reacting to whatever lands in your inbox first.

2. Give yourself a minute before the day starts.

Not a whole routine. Not a five-step morning ritual. Just a few minutes before the noise — before the phone, before everyone else needs something from you. Coffee and quiet. A look at what’s ahead. That’s enough to start the day feeling like yourself instead of already behind.

3. When the day goes sideways, don’t spiral. Just reset.

You’ll have a morning where nothing goes according to plan. That’s not failure — that’s just a regular week. The only thing that matters is how fast you come back. Reset after lunch. Reset after school pick up. Reset tomorrow morning. One rough hour doesn’t mean the whole week is a wash.

4. At the end of each day, write down one thing you did.

Not what’s left. Not what you didn’t get to. One thing you actually did. Doesn’t have to be big. Made the call. Sent the email. Showed up. It adds up faster than you think — and it’s a lot harder to feel like you’re failing when you can see the evidence that you’re not.

5. On Friday, spend five minutes closing the loop.

What got done? What’s moving to next week? What kept getting in the way? Just enough to start the next week with a little more clarity than you had this one.

A good week isn’t a perfect week. It’s one where you felt in control of at least most of it. Where the things that mattered actually got your attention. Where you weren’t just surviving until Friday.

That’s what we’re going for. One week at a time!

Take a photo instead of keeping the thing.

Not everything needs to take up physical space to be worth keeping. Snap a picture, save it to an album on your phone, and let the actual item go.

1. The 100th cute drawing your kids brought home

2. The card from someone you love that’s been sitting in a pile for two years

3. A warranty pamphlet or instruction manual you might need someday

4. A spread from a magazine you want to reference later

This way, the memory stays but the clutter does not!

Something to do today:

Write down the three most important things you’d like to accomplish this week. Keeping the list short helps you focus on what actually matters.

Something to do this week:

Swap out or refresh something small that gets used daily — a dish sponge, kitchen towel, or water filter. Tiny updates like this quietly improve everyday routines.

Baked Feta Pasta

Page 109 in The Simplified Cookbook

Ingredients:

• 1 (8 oz) block feta cheese

• 2 cups cherry tomatoes

• 3 Tbsp olive oil

• 1 (16 oz) box bowtie pasta

• 1/4 cup chopped basil, for topping

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray a 9 x 13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.

2. Place feta cheese in center of baking dish, and place the tomatoes around the feta.

3. Drizzle olive oil over the entire dish, then add salt and black pepper to taste.

4. Bake for 30 minutes, then remove and stir.

5. While feta and tomatoes are baking, boil bowtie pasta according to instructions on the package until al dente. Drain pasta and add to the baking dish, stirring thoroughly to combine.

6. Top with chopped basil.

Get ahead of your week & make time for the things on your agenda!

1. Send out birthday cards for upcoming May birthdays.

2. Wipe down baseboards in one room.

3. Clear out old downloads or files from your computer desktop.

4. Clean pollen or dust from window screens.

5. Leave a small note of encouragement for someone in your home.

Q: “What’s something you’re excited about in this season of life?”

Emily: Oh my gosh, so much. I have big kids now! My oldest is learning to drive and my twins start middle school in the Fall.

Brittany: My oldest is 9 and my littlest 3 are starting kindergarten in the fall, so we are waving goodbye to preschool days and are squarely in our elementary era. This season is full of funny conversations, family inside jokes, movie quotes we all know and reference, trips together that feel a little easier and a lot more fun, and saying yes to more adventures.

Whitney: My kids are 5 and 7 and I genuinely could not love this season more. It’s so fun watching their imaginations and skills grow, and sharing the things I love with them! My husband and I met in high school on swim team (and later coached together) and this summer will be my kids’ first on summer swim team. I can’t wait to be at their meets as a mom!

Dusty: This season feels especially sweet because our family is growing. Our newest grandbaby arrived on April 25. There’s something so grounding about slowing down and soaking in these moments while watching a new generation begin. It’s made me more present and more grateful for time together. Everything feels a little more meaningful right now.

Laura: This summer is a big one for my girls! My oldest is starting high school sports — she amazes me every day and I know she is so ready! My middle is going to be in two theater productions this summer, her favorite place to be. And my youngest is my mini, just loving being seven!

Carly: I have my first solo trip planned for this summer, and I’m really excited to have that time for some self-love and exploration!

Lindsey: I’m really excited for a few weekend trips with friends and family this summer. And honestly, I’m just soaking up this time at home with my husband and our dog. We’re celebrating our first anniversary, which feels really special — such a sweet way to start another season together.

Liz: Our baby GIRL is coming in just a matter of days! I am really looking forward to another shot at the newborn phase with a little more experience under my belt. Everything was so scary and unknown the first time around, it was often hard to “soak up the moments”. But I’m excited for another season of learning and growing.

A lot of us are walking around waiting for a quiet kind of permission.

Not in an obvious way. Not something we would say out loud. But in the small pauses during the day — when we hesitate, second guess, or feel a little guilty for wanting things to feel easier, calmer, or different.

Take what you need:

1. You are allowed to change your mind.

2. You are allowed to take a few minutes of quiet (even if that means hiding in your closet or sitting in your car).

3. You are allowed to not respond right away.

4. You are allowed to feel tired of managing everything.

5. You are allowed to do less today.

6. You are allowed to outgrow routines, roles, and expectations.

7. You are allowed to rest before you reach your breaking point.

8. You are allowed to take the easier option.

9. You are allowed to want a slower pace of life.

10. You are allowed to enjoy things that don’t make you more productive.

11. You are allowed to ask for help.

12. You are allowed to not have a perfect explanation for how you’re feeling.

13. You are allowed to feel proud of small, ordinary things.

14. You are allowed to not have it all figured out.

15. You are allowed to protect your energy without over-explaining.

16. You are allowed to be in a season that looks different than what you expected.

17. You are allowed to be a person, not a perfectly functioning system.

There’s something comforting about remembering this isn’t just you! So many people are carrying the same quiet pressure, the same internal expectations, the same feeling that they should be handling things better than they are.

We’re all a lot more alike in this than we think. Not because everyone’s situations are the same, or because one person’s struggles make another’s less valid. It doesn’t take away from what you’re carrying, and it doesn’t make someone else’s load heavier or lighter.

It just means that in different ways, we’re all navigating stress, pressure, and the feeling of trying to keep up. And maybe there’s a little bit of relief in knowing you’re not the only one feeling it.
